I’ve lived a few years and learned a bit along the way.  While I may not be the wisest woman in the world, I have managed to recognize wisdom when I see it, and it concerns me that I see little of it in the world about me, especially in our government today.  Those who show integrity and promise in government as candidates are often rejected, fade early or resign before fully expressing their talents and skills. Civil servants now refuse to enforce rule of law or obey it.

They even go so far as to weaponize the law not only where high profile politicians are concerned but in our very own state and local governments where people with no power and few resources, monetary or otherwise, have no defense unless they have a very smart attorney willing to go the extra mile and risk much for them. Then the very next day these same civil servants and people in office act as if these very same laws do not apply to them.

We, the American voters, are partly responsible for this because we vote for those elected into office, barring rumors of voter fraud.  Our nation needs the voting public to be wiser, stronger, smarter, and a lot more aware of how we are being manipulated in the power game in this world… We also need to be more aware of the importance of rule of law itself.  it IS one of the primary reasons this country is so successful and a critical requirement in a free society like ours.

This awareness on our part is especially relevant if we care about what kind of world we leave to our young people who are still learning how to fly. We need to first provide them with the hope of a better future and also give them a better role model than the one who says, ‘I’ll get mine and the devil take everyone else.’

I believe the hearts of the American people have all the right impulses for all the right reasons. What we do not have is all the accurate information or that information framed in the right perspective to do what is right for this country.  Perhaps we did not ask enough questions about the information we were given. Were we to do more research and think before reacting, I believe we would not be so far apart as we think on the issues of the day.

To that end, I publish this blog. I hope to ask the right questions and add or frame information in a way that will cause you to think about important issues differently.

……………. Meritt.
